Your TFN becomes your identifier for life for everything related to taxes.
Your TFN does not change in case of change of name, job change, or when you move interstate or go overseas.

Check Your Eligibility For Getting A TFN
You could start working immediately or you might take a break, but you still need to apply for a TFN if you fall into any of the following categories –
- You are a permanent migrant – which means you hold a PR visa
- Your visa gives you right to work – for working or bridging visa holders
- You are an overseas student.
- Your visa allows you to stay (and work) in Australia indefinitely
- You are a citizen of New Zealand and you have been granted a visa on arrival.

3. Visit your nearest CentreLink office
Fill this form and send it with certified copies of identity documents to ATO.
You’ll receive TFN within 28 days from your application received.
