Plan Early
If you are coming to Australia on any long-term visa soon and you haven’t planned your check-in luggage packing yet; then you might be in big trouble. Packing for short stay is very different than packing for long-term migration.
Keep in mind that you have pack all those necessary things which will not be available in Australia, otherwise you’ll keep spending extra dollars on couriers after moving.
We recommend you should start preparing your packing list at least 3 months in advance to your date of travel.
How Much To Carry
Your check-in baggage should not exceed 32kg (70lb) of weight. This is an international health and safety standard and applies to airlines. We recommend you to carry maximum 2 bags as check-in luggage.
Choosing the right baggage –
- when we ask about how much to carry then we must think about the bag selection.
Make sure to follow airline’s rule for check-inluggage dimensions. - Select a good quality lightweight rolling bag to carry check-in luggage.
- Buy a luggage strap to keep your bag intact and for the ease to take the bags out from a carousel.
How To pack
Packing Clothes
Roll your clothes instead of folding them. You can make use of vacuum bags for packing clothes. This way clothes will eat up less space in the bag and they will not be stained if any liquid spills in the bag.
Packing Liquid
Bring all the allowed liquid items in sealed bottles and keep the bottles in a zip-lock bag.
Packing other personal items
Other personal items like shoes, belt, books etc around the edge of the bag.
* A smart tip for packing shoes – make the use of shower cap to avoid the problem of your clothes getting stained. But more importantly – you must clean your shoes if they are stained or have dust particles before packing; otherwise you might face questioning at the quarantine check.
Household items
Pack these items properly in carrying bags or wrap them in a paper. Avoid carrying delicate or sharp household items.
Air travel with children
Usually, children receive the same baggage allowance as that of adults. Also, there is usually provision for carrying at least a stroller or a car seat. Commonly infants (under two) get a lesser baggage allowance.
Make sure you read the airline rules before packing.
